Call on your representatives: Declare a climate emergency

We are in a climate emergency and our governments must act on it. We need urgent and decisive action to address the growing threats of hurricanes, flooding, wildfires, extreme temperatures, and other events. Climate change is causing these disasters to become more frequent and severe, endangering lives and livelihoods.

Tell our elected officials to prioritize climate action to phase out fossil fuels and invest in resilient infrastructure. We must transition to renewable energy, promote conservation efforts, and support communities in adapting to the climate. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer, more sustainable future.

The problem is getting worse

Over the last 40 years, extreme weather events have more than doubled and are becoming more intense. Our increasing greenhouse gas emissions, primarily from burning fossil fuels, have resulted in a rise in global temperatures. Now we’re dealing with the melting of glaciers, rising sea levels, and altered weather patterns, all contributing to the severity of natural disasters.

Developing countries are disproportionately vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and are already on the frontlines. In recent years, we’ve seen tens of billions of dollars of economic loss from heat waves, droughts, floods, and storms. Millions of people are already directly affected, and if we don't take immediate action, these numbers will continue to rise. It is crucial that we demand climate action from our governments and policymakers to mitigate the impact of natural disasters.

Government action is needed

We must take immediate action to mitigate the effects of climate change and reduce the risk of future disasters. Governments need to prioritize humanitarian aid and response to these disasters, as well as push for policies that encourage risk reduction and adaptation—including climate action. While most of the worlds nations have agreed to act on climate change, their pledges must be enforced.
