Climate-friendly Supermarkets

The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) operates a community science initiative with the goal of collecting information about refrigerant usage in American supermarkets. They have developed a map that showcases supermarkets worldwide that have adopted climate-friendly refrigerants.

You can participate by taking photos of the identifying information on your supermarket's equipment and contributing to the expansion of this database.

This data is then utilized to support local efforts that urge corporations to switch to environmentally friendly refrigerants. Historically, food retailers have not been forthcoming about the types of refrigerants they use in their stores.

By choosing to shop at supermarkets known for their sustainability efforts, including the use of eco-friendly refrigerants, consumers send a clear message about their preferences. Supermarkets track sales and customer feedback closely and adjust their practices to meet consumer demand.

Consider engaging with supermarkets directly through feedback forms, customer service channels, or social media. By persistently expressing your concerns about the use of HFCs and the importance of sustainable practices, consumers can inspire changes in corporate policies.

Refrigerant Destruction

This project permanently destroys harmful refrigerants that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, thereby fighting global warming and helping to restore the planet's ozone layer.
